Common Inquiries

In the studio, the quality of your experience—from consultation to delivery—is given the highest attention. Whether your visit is online or in person, you are a guest of the house. To help you navigate your journey, insights and inquiries most shared by the community are listed below.

Consultations and Scheduling

  • I would like to schedule a consultation. What is the typical wait time, and how do I schedule?

    • In-person consultations are scheduled via email. Typically, local clients (American Northeast) are scheduled approximately 2 weeks after contact. Three times are provided as options for your convenience. Traveling/international affairs are approached with understanding—effort is made to align your consultation with your visit to Rochester.  Please contact the studio as soon as your are aware of your visit itinerary.

  • Do you offer walk-ins?

    • To ensure that your experience is exceptional in every way possible, we do not offer walk-ins.

  • Do you offer a fitting period for base models?

    • We have all base models on location at the studio for you to experience. Please schedule a consultation.

Mechanical/Design

  • Is a custom model right for me?

    • We describe the custom process to clients as one of refinement, not ground-up redesign. Our base model library was designed to cover most major configuration possibilities, and we are able to use this library as a point of departure for your design.

  • What is the RAD? How is it used at the studio?

    • The rapid acoustic diagnostic (RAD) was developed by The Earnhart Company to empower mouthpiece selection by way of data-driven evidence. RAD uses immense computational acoustic models plus samples of your own performance to establish a sonic baseline for mouthpiece selection.

  • Do any of your mouthpieces come in a modular/threaded design?

    • Yes, the standard blank is a two part assembly (rim/cup; throat/backbore). Single piece mouthpieces are available upon request for an additional price.

  • How long do custom orders take to ship?

    • Custom products can be expected to ship 4-6 weeks after your final fitting. Base models are produced on a rotating schedule. If your order is not currently in stock, you can expect it to ship in approximately 2-3 weeks.

  • Do you offer custom blank designs?

    • Yes, custom blank designs are available by quote. The blanks is the visible outer profile of your mouthpiece.

  • Can I modify a base model?

    • Yes, this is common and fulfilled very well through a custom order. Contact the studio by emailing info@earnhartcompany.com to schedule your consultation.

At The Earnhart Company, the process of designing a mouthpiece is memorable and enjoyable—the studio experience should never be intimidating or unclear. Relationships with our clients we hope to carry throughout a lifetime, because we understand our importance in enabling career success, and empowering the artist's need to create without impediment.
